Old barcodes, can they be used?
Sorry if I am asking too many questions, I will shut up in a minute..
Just have been wondering if there is any point cutting off barcodes from older products and keeping them in case of store comps, i.e. ones not
purchased during the comp period....do the barcodes change over time?
thanks. |

No point, really.
These days companies are only interested in receipts of your purchases, and more and more companies are insisiting on original receipts, and CLEARLY
showing you entered in the time frame of the competition.
They are switching on....yippeee!
I would never have been awarded my $39,000 car in October last year, or my $4,850 holiday this week, had I not been able to produce my original
receipt....(for the holiday, ALL my entries I submitted).....so truly, barcodes do not matter, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN MY BARCODES.
it is proof you entered in the competition time frame.
Keep all your barcodes if you wish, just cant see you using them, and being able to claim a win, unless you have a receipt to show you purchased in
comp time
Good luck! |

Sometimes they do, they may alter the colour in the barcode, or have a special code that's required.

Years ago when comps were mainly by mail barcodes were the POP that they wanted. With the move to online comps (as eva pointed out), they want
original receipts. Be careful - in Woolworths, because of their no print under $30 policy, you have to ask for your receipt. Ask for an original
receipt when you FIRST come to the counter, if you wait until after the transaction the operator has only a limited time to manually press the
printout. If they're too late you'll get a duplicate receipt and there's no going back, you're stuck with a duplicate. Even if you go to the front
desk, the best they can do is another duplicate from the database. Some comps insist on an original receipt so you only get one shot at it. Be mindful
of this and always read the terms carefully. |

Thanks all....I guess I won't get too worried about keeping heaps of barcodes then if it's all about the receipts. That will save me a lot of wasted
effort. |

Do any comps still ask for barcodes? I haven't come across one. |

Always check the terms to see whats required. Some just want the reciepts, but others want barcodes, codes or special packaging as well. |

Occasionally you have to enter the barcode on the online form e.g. the Arnotts one at the moment you need to enter the barcode numbers. As for keeping
them it's a more rare occurrence.
