Stark-raving
Starky have been hittin’ the straps this year, bubbling, boiling and brewing with sporadic shows over the past few months in preparation of their self
titled LP due in store July 8 through Universal Music Australia. With the first single Is This How It Ends receiving rotation on radio across the
country, rave reviews on their self titled EP Starky, an overseas deal with Island Records in the UK, and a solid year of live shows ahead of them,
this four piece from Sydney are heading towards a huge 2006. Simply huge. To celebrate, the fine Two Fish Out of Water publicity folk have chucked us
five copies of their EP to sling your way. To win, tell us who you’d like to see starkers.

Kiss This
Kisschasy are almost in town to continue the raging fire that is licensed all age events at UC. After The Kiss released The Shake a few months back,
they have knuckled down in preparation of unleashing their honed live show to punters both suspecting and unsuspecting alike. July 9 be the date,
USA’s Limbeck, Trial Kennedy and Zero Degrees and Falling be the support and $15 + bf ($18 on the door) be the price, but thanks to those extremely
tall and rather handsome Zero Degrees lads, we have three double passes to pass on to your pastards. To pass for a pass, tell me how many times I said
pass just then. Pass.

From the Ashes
Yes, a lame, stereotyped Phoenix reference, granted, but don’t let that put you off the group (called Phoenix, by the way) that our boy Howe described
two issues ago as “pesky purveyors of slick French-boy pop.” O, but that’s not all he said (I can’t shut the lad up sometimes). “From playing as Air’s
backing band,” he espouses, “to hanging with Thomas Bangalter, to knocking up Sofia Coppola - the super smooth French kids, Phoenix, have been
providing the slick pop soundtrack to popped cherries with two magnificent albums. Now, their third, It’s Never Been Like That, ditches all that gloss
and sheen for something a little more jagged, a little more rough and a little more awesome.” Yes, you too could be as excited as our boy Howe, for
thanks to EMI – valkyries of freeness that they are – we have five copies to fling, Gambit-like, into your chest cavity.* To win, tell me how many
times you think I’ve spotted Howe wearing pink pants in the past month. If you’re within 100, you’re in the running.

Hotshots Part Trois
Well helllllll-low! Some of Sydney’s hottest men are “performing” in a brand new show that will soon be oiling up the Jamison Hotel on June 25 and
Queanbeyan Kangaroo Footy Club on June 30. I’m going to quote the next bit from the press release. It’s gold. Enjoy. “Every girl’s dream will come
true when the sexiest six packs from Sydney explode on stage in a non-stop two hour action packed journey into fantasy land. The show starts with five
of the hottest firemen coming to your rescue, making their way through a brilliant production of smoke and lights. The guys will not only take your
breath away as they reveal their first performance, they will also take your heart away with live singing, comedy, dance and a little romance.” We’ve
greased up two prize packs for your sexy self, including a Hotshots tour t-shirt, key ring and a poster, and a double pass to the night of your
choice. To win, tell us what gets your motor running. Hit www.sydneyhotshots.com for more “info” (read: perving).

Brothers Grimm
With an extreme sense of visual flair, Terry Gilliam has directed some of the most fantastic films of the last 30 years (12 Monkeys, Brazil, The
Fisher King). Now he buckles his swash with Heath Ledger and Matt Damon to make the fun and fantasy inspired Brothers Grimm. With tongue planted
firmly in cheek, Brothers Grimm has a sense of humour about itself and some fantastic scenes. You can pick up a copy of Brothers Grimm right now on
DVD (own it or rent it) or, thanks to our Village Roadshow friends, we have five copies to give away. Simply tell us a story to win. (GEOFF SETTY)

*All giveaways are distributed with a strict level of non-violence – they’re usually mailed out – although someone did give themselves a papercut on
an envelope once – that was an ugly incident, what with the lawyers and everything – but fortunately we settled outside of court. I say settled.
Brutalised is probably more accurate.
