Competition Books

Does anybody have any books about winning competitions, particularly 25wol? I find winspiration and rhymezone really useful when I'm stuck for ideas, but I was wondering whether it's worth investing in any books. Any recommendations?

I have a few - most of them are from the UK though who tend to have 10 words or less.

I have one called "How to win any slogan competition" (which is a big lie cause I never do LOL) by Angelina Kaye, one called Pun-ch Lines by Lynne Suzanne who apparantly has a lot of other books out and a web site (can't remember it).

I remember ages ago seeing software called punrhymer which was interesting.

Another interesting web site is http://www.dotcomper.co.uk/ which has a huge database but you have to pay to join (and they only take cheques).

I have one called 'Winners Are Grinners' The complete guide to winning consumer competitions.
I found it to be a really good book - especially for someone like me whose 25wol totally sucked. And since applying some of the principles in the book I have won a really good prize. You can order it off the web, this is the addy:

Good luck and I hope you find one you like.

Last time I renewed they took PayPal. When I first joined it was cheaper to send British pounds by registered mail than to send a cheque in pounds.

But they've recently redesigned their site, and I find it very frustrating to use. Winspiration is much better organised.

I am pretty sure you can only order it from the website. But maybe ask at a bookstore and see if they can get it in for you.

Thanks for this. Does the Winners are Grinners book have ideas for 25wols like the winspiration site, or just general principles to apply?

It has actual 25wol answers so you can see how to apply their tips. ie: product placement.
There is also some winning 25wol so you can see what the judges were looking for and what they chose as winners.

I don't have the book yet, but I believe one of my winning entries is in there. I don't know where to get the book.

Hi guys
My husband bought me Winners are Grinners for my birthday. He ordered it directly from the website (do a Google search on Winners are Grinners and you'll find it). Lottos features strongly in it - I reckon the author is hiding here somewhere!

Goldengoose - do you think they can steal your entries without your permission?

I was thinking that too... you own the copyright on what you write??? I'd be a bit peed off if someone put mine in without asking me first.

I guess that is the only thing in sharing entries in a public forum too - anyone can knock your ideas off... I notice musicmax has asked the same question again this time around as from a comp I won last September from them.

I am pretty sure GoldenGoose gave her permission for the answer to be in the book. (Correct me if I am wrong GG :))

Just a query but once entered don't they (your wol entries) become the property of the competition holders or am I just in la la land on this one. :D

Forgot to ask to (having looked at the site for Winners are Grinners) are there any marketing ppl here or anyone that works for a company that holds these comps, maybe they could give us some more clues :D

It depends on how they write it up in their terms & conditions....

Copy the page and paste into an email. That is how we ordered it. But I can't see why you can't print & post it if there is a postal address to send it to.

Good luck.

Winners are Grinners elmo, but they didn't reply to my email?? I will try again, I tried faxing, but I don't know if it went through, and don't want it going twice on my credit card - will wait and see I guess? Phone number just keeps ringing out.

Ok!
I faxed through my order and it took about 3-4 weeks for delivery! In the end I emailed them and they apologized for delay!
Just be patient!;)

I placed an order today

I spoke to the sellers by phone. They said they would post tomorrow and as I live not too far away I will have it on Monday or Tuesday. Hope so!

A good book to read is "The Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio" (How my mother raised 10 kids on 25 WOL) by Terry Ryan. It is the biography of a woman comping in America in the 50's written by her daughter. A great story and inspiring reading. I requested it at my library. The book was published about 5 years ago ???
