25 words or less - winning with poems

posted 28-4-2007 @ 09:52 PM www

I never won so far yet, maybe one day I will

Since I posted last and I believe it was in 2005 - where has the time gone I have actually won quite a few 25wol comps. And they have been a variety of rhymes, sentences or stupid answers. Can't give a formula but it is all depending on the judges. My advise is to just give it a go. You never know.

Have only been a member for about 5 weeks but have decided to concentrate on the 25WOL comps. My partner is really clever with words and has a gift of being able to be witty and incorporate the subject matter into rhymes. keeping our fingers crossed. Would rather spend some time than "luck of the draw" comps. Will keep you posted.

I haver now been a member for a lot longer. have absolutely no wins on line with the 25WOL but still doing okay via the post when I can add all the extra work to it. Letters often say how original etc the entry was, so must be doing the right thing. Kids have huge success with the 25 WOL. they put in a huge amount of work though. Lots of extra artwork etc. Still it is worth it. Good luck everyone. :D:D:D

I love the 25 WOL, but some days it just comes to me, others I can sit at the PC for hours and nothing. Ive had a few where Ive thought "great, Ive got to win that " and have actually saved them in case I win and nothing. Then I did a holiday one which I put no thought into at all , didnt save it as I thought it was crap and I won the trip so you just never know what the judges are after.

I agree. There have been some that I have entered and put a lot of effort and time into and got zero. there are others that i have thought are so so and won. It is really hard to know what the judges want. it is so subjective. I know with the kids comps the judges are different all the time. One magazine told me that they quite often get the work experience people to help out. I guess when some comps have thousands of entries they need all the help they can get.

Interesting that 75% of the posters in this thread, albeit from 2003 ;) seem to be no longer with us - perhaps the 25 WOL answers weren't working!!!!:P:P:P:P

How funny was just reading this topic and popped over to facebook to find I had won a comp with this

I always feel dirty when I write rhymes LOL.

Usually I go for one liners or whatever comes naturally. I'm sure I miss out on a wins because of it, but I'd rather have my dignity...LOL

As someone who has won a literary award and familar with great poetry, i am amazed by the cliche stuff that wins and you write more challanging stuff and they dont seem to go for it. hmm. i'm yet to find success in 25wol and am creative!
