What type of people are 25wol judges? |

we are running a nationwide competition at my work. The judge is a girl in her 20's who works in the marketing department and she reads the entries as
they come in and only keeps the good ones for final judging at the end. I've seen most of the entries and they are pretty bad and poorly written |

I went on a trip with subway and the marketing zoo people came with us. After a few drinks they were quite happy to talk about such things and they
said they do read every entry but that in general a lot of them are very similar. If they read a couple all on the same train of thought they tend to
get overlooked but if one stands outs as being different or funny they keep them in another pile for the final judging. Basically first impressions
count. All of those people were young, early-mid 20's, and very outgoing people. |

I've only been comping seven months, but I really don't think every 25WOL is judged. I think you get a feel for the comps that are, and those that
aren't. Those with unlimited entry that receive thousands of entries I believe they will draw a certain number eg 100 and read those and choose from
them. Also, you see some WOL T&C's say "first entry drawn to meet the requirements". I think with these, they do a draw and as long as the entrant
has given a 25WOL answer they are happy enough. I remember a comp when I first started comping - it was for one of the popular woman's mags that
always run WOL comps - the 100 winners all had names starting with A or B!!!
It feels great to win a 25WOL that you know has been truly judged. I've seen some brilliant answers from winners on here and you can see they were
judged. I actually feel better when I see a 'great' entry win because 1) I feel satisfied it was better than my 'great' entry and 2) I'm not wasting my time coming up with good answers!
I've stopped entering a lot of the WOL unlimited comps now - have better comps to give my attention to! |

I believe there are those that are judged, and those that are drawn then judged. 'One only' entry is more likely to be judged. I only enter WOL
because I like the challenge.....but win very very few ( make that 2 in 12 months lol).
My main problem is choosing the ones that I enter. I am what a lot of people would consider old......so its pointless for me to enter comps for say,
make-up put out by a mags that are directed to young women, or high end fashion comps ect. Even comps for household goods are more or less directed to
the younger market, and it seems every promoter wants your age on the entry form.  |

The comps that are WOL Unlimited but unique answer required each time, you think they'd be going through them all...then again
I won a caption comp last week. I thought my answer was lame... |

haha nellie, yes I did. I guess back then I was ecstatic telling the world but a few years ago now so Ive settled down.
Must add he was adorable, the most warm and genuine person you could meet, with such fascinating stories, and I was lucky to be sitting next to him
and honestly he was so small and cute I could have just taken him home in my handbag.
The best part, we also got every book signed by him, and each release that comes out, penguin still sends me a signed copy so a great comp it was. |

I won a major competition a few years ago and that is how they said they judged that particular comp. They went through them each day as they came in
and only kept the ones they liked.

A few years ago my daughter worked for a large company part of her job was to pick winning 25wols she was in her early 20's then
And she would sometimes think if it sound like something I would have said to her like wear a singlet it cold out she could relate to she would go
with it. I think alot of young people are given that job of sorting out winners |

There once was a Canberra male,
Entered all comps without fail.
Struggled to impress,
With 25 Words or Less,
Thousands of entries to no avail!
Woo hoo - right on 25 words!!!
Nah seriously I love them and have had plenty of winners. Like others though, I have seen some very ordinary entries win and wondered.....

I work for a large, well known international company.
I just went down and talked to our marketing department (who I convieniently get along with very well)..
The Judge: The Marketing Assistant. This will be the case in all companies as the Mundane task of reading sentences and sifting through Database
Printouts/reports is an assistants job.
Alot of the times the marketing assistant here has picked winners due to the fact it mentions something that she likes. In one case, 'True blood' was
mentioned and she picked that as the winner due to her liking that show.
Most answers are skim read. The report that gets printed is pages long with names and contact details. Assistants are slack, having an answer that
stands out (as far as looks are concerned-Caps, Symbols, WiErD SpElLiNg, short answers) will be read in full rather then being skim read.
I hope that provides some insight.
Also, Im in the IT department so the reports that are printed kinda fall in our category as well. OUR reports contain IP Addresses and HTTP_REFFERER
Codes.
Refferrer codes are the big one.
The refferer means the webpage you were originally on to get to the competition page. If you just click the entry button on the lottos forum which
takes you to the win page where you submit, the refferer will be http://www.lottos.com.au/.... etc
Very very very easy to see who is an actual member/product user and who is just comping |

Interesting....I'd almost consider this a breach of privacy. What right does anyone have to know where you clicked from? I do realise this actually
matters for advertising purposes & stats on where your customers are coming from, etc, but for comping purposes....

You could always cut & paste the address straight into a new tab/window. No way of tracking it then.

i recon they are drawn. my daughter won a trip with WOL to meet Justin Bieber. There are SOOOOOOO many crazy young girls 1000,s who would have entered
that, so there is no way they would have read all the girls entrys.
and, she entered the day before because we only just discovered it, and they called the next day to say she won. The last entered...always the first
drawn i say. |

Not sure about "always" kazza1. But it is definitely done.
A few points some may be interested in:
- If you enter multiple times on the same day or in a short space of time (whether your own or on behalf of others), if someone does read them as they
come in, you might be better off spacing out the entries throughout the period, especially if they are similar in nature, ie. poems, limericks,
acrostics.
That way if they place them aside in a shortlist, you might have more chance if they're a few days/weeks apart.
- Same goes for entering close to the end date, which MAY mean your entry(s) are fresher in the judges' mind(s) when they pick a winner.

Nah.. Refferrer is part of the HTML Specification. In other words, every single website in the entire world has it. I guarantee you every company uses
it for logging/tracking purposes. Thats how google works. When you click on links in search results that goes to another site, the site can tell that
you got there from google, so they invest more money into advertising there.
Websites also record your Operating System version, Country of Origin and what pages you have clicked on. |

I have noticed that when I do fancy formatting in word and then copy and past into online entry form often all formatting is lost with the words
written plainly.

This is probably why I never win WOL being a "mature" mother I'm probably not up with like, all the, like modern terms,
like, what Gen Y, like, use. |
