Do they really count the words of the 25 wol comps.
Do they really count the words of the 25 wol comps.
I have checked some of my entries, ( because I save them now ) and one of my entries in the IPrimus broadband comp was 26 words, so I sent the exact
same entry, word for word minus one word to make it right on 25.
I have won a prize with over 25 words but can't remember whether it was specified as a 25 wol.
What are your views please.? |

while I doubt they allways count, personally,
I'd rather know its going to be valid than just take a chance.
Stick to the rules and you cant go wrong |

I don't know that they always do
But I always stick to 25 when it says so. I have noticed a couple of comps lately have stated that entries with more than the specified number of
words will be disqualified so I hope this is the case. |

why chance it?
Far better to stick to the rules, than run the risk of your hard work being thrown out. If you do them on the computer, you can get it to do a word
count, saves constantly going 1, 2, 3............ I've started saving my 25 worders now as I've started to win a few, for a while I had no
luck at all. |

As they are games of skill there is no requirement they print the results such as winners and or slogans. Because of the volume they receive I
imagine some would slip through. There was a thread somewhere here of someone winning something significant that did not comply with the word count. |

Seems to depend on the promoters. I have seen winning entries that have quite obviously exceded 25 words even though it was stated entries over that
limit would be disqualified.
Personally I don't think its worth taking the risk and like Denny I write them on Word - good for word count, spell check and thesaurus. |

if I was judging, I'd disqualify any over the limit, because they must get so many it must be so hard to decide which would be the winner, so
you'd start by excluding any that didn't follow the instructions, wouldn't you?
So I always stick to the limit - why risk it? That is part of the challenge anyway - making it fit into 25 words - its sometimes pretty difficult
isn't it!
(and have you noticed I always put in long posts - I am not good at rationing words!!!) |

I always edit my 25WOL in my word processing program as it has a word counter, that way Im always on the mark.

You all know there is a word wount on the personal notes tab, I use that for each comp I enter to save my wol and check the count ... It counts as you
write  |

There are some comps where promoters admit that 25WOL is really more of a guideline than a rule.
There are other promoters where the first thing they do is disqualify anyone over 25 words.
Some promoters even count "don't" as "do not" - so you can go over without realising.
I've even heard of one (I can't remember who it was) who automatically discounted any answers with spelling mistakes, just to get the number of
answers they had to read down to a reasonable number.
I always stick to 25 WOL, which can be awfully frustrating when 26-27 words make a good answer, but 25 words means that the answer no longer makes any
sense. |

I totally agree. My answers would be so much better if I didn't have to try to keep my words to 25 wol. |

If they are once only, they are probably judged (not always, aka pepsi and The Knot comps recently)
If they are daily or unlimited I truly believe they are mostly drawn, and when they are the word count doesn't mean a thing. |
