How to win WOL Competitions - a personal, theoretical and totally unreliable method...

If there's a comp I want to win,
I'll surely put an entry in.
To win you have to clearly say
Why the prize should come your way.
If you think it's all too hard,
Take your time in that regard.
Sit down, take five and have a go,
Let your hidden talents flow.
Keep it short, or make it rhyme,
You'll get better over time.
Put your efforts to the test,
Maybe yours turns out the best.
All the judges have to do,
Is say that they agree with you.
Is it worth all that strain?
Yes, sit down and do it again!
You never know what others write,
Pick up your pen and start tonight.

If you surely want to be in the know, wikipedia is the place to go..
- Ive been to festivals and experienced VIP - Lottos is the place to be.
Chaffeur driven - opening my doors to amazing experiences I could never afford.
I made the pledge to take a positive step and cant understand people that say I never win repeating with no success.
Everyday I check the mail with the anticipation of christmas my dreams in motion sail...
I never give up, never ever doubt my own luck.
Lottos has changed my life and giving is nice,
Selfish people stay away, after winning the light shines the way.

Just to add my 2 cents worth......95 percent of my wins are 25WOL , once only, and I have never written a rhyme, poem, haiku or limerick !

I do quick, bold, to the point, a bit funny, a bit cheeky, sometimes lie, sometimes do sob-story, but mostly honest short statements....

Seems to work for me

Most good wins resulting from a WOL comp arent rhymes either, though I do see them posted as winners alot but they never win for me, I must be doing it wrong LOL

Stand out from the crowd, shout your thoughts out very loud.
Make judges turn your way, with an unexpected play.
Weirdest place you changed a nappy last? On my dogs back in the park.
A rhyme can win if its witty, but dont write off a parodical ditty.
Playing it straight can earn a prize, amazement at product (even when lies).
But most of all, know your reader, get it right and you'll be the leader.
No harm to try so give it a go, soon there'll be treasures your efforts will show.

Yep - I won $500 of nappies a few years ago with that nappy changing answer (it wasnt a rhyme).

I havent won a overseas holiday or kitchen but I have done ok for someone who comps for 2 hours a night after family is in bed - thanks lottos and all the lovely lottoers.

Me thinks some lottoers are a little bored
entering the comps we all adore
so now they have us wasting time
writing out silly stuff in rhyme
when we should be instead
thinking up winning WOL
maybe it's time to have a rest
and take our tired minds to bed !

I have a problem most of the time as for some unknown reason, I rely heavily on truth of entry; I have won prizes over the years, but only one big prize years ago, that was a TV and surround system, supposedly then worth over $7,000, but now available for less than $500, and a better system; doesn't time change things?

Still, not complaining, I always get my moneys worth back and more over the year; the one thing I would like to win is a holiday, but I seem to lack the finesse some how to win such a prize. I often wonder how one person's name comes up time and time again for the big wins; one in particular came up with I think 5 holidays abroad in one month, and that's just the holidays, but she wins many more big prizes over a year like cars and the like, she must be very clever!

I don't envy her because for me that would be just too much, I like to keep my life simple, and if I can win things for my children and grandchildren, then I gain great enjoyment for those wins.

Sorry, probably sounds boring, but when you're 70, any good thing is to be relished and enjoyed. :)

I think some people are just very creative with their WOL , very clever, I have to admit I stretch the truth quite a bit in the name of creativity, nothing overboard but sometimes my WOL have a life of their own !!!!

But I agree at 62 (in a few days) our generation were bought up to tell the truth the whole truth etc, a habit that''s hard to break, I still feel guilty if I fib, but just like you I'm happy with whatever I win...and I don't have the energy for 5 overseas trips, one took long enough to recover from...not that I'd complain if I was lucky enough to win more :)

There's nothing wrong with being truthful..some judges prefer that to over-the-top creative entries. However try to think what other people would say and make yours a bit different.

There was a competition a while back where all the entries were on display. I can't remember exactly what the question was but it was something along the lines of "What was your most memorable moment?" I would say ninety percent of the entries were about wedding days, the birth of a child or something along those lines. I'm sure the judges would have got tired of reading so many similar entries and looked for something different. So while it may be the truth that the birth of your baby was your most memorable moment it's not going to win any prizes. You would need to think of a unique memorable moment...one 90% of the population hasn't experienced or put a unique spin on it. You can still be truthful but try to be different!

Good luck...and remember large numbers of competitions aren't judged even though they say they are!

I'll add my bit too. No two companies are the same in what they like Some like rhyme , some like soppy, some like truthful., some like funny - I just say what ever comes into my head and change it around a bit and it's worked .. we'll it did but it's been lacking recently! ;)
