Winning answer - signed cricket bat set valued at $20,000
The prize was a set of three cricket bats signed by Donald Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Waugh valued at $20,000. There were 550 entries (I
thought there'd be a lot more with a prize like that!). The question was: "Who is your greatest cricket legend and why?"
The winning answer was:
“Sachin Tendulker is my greatest legend, because he batted like a thunder bolt, and engraved his immortal signature on the sandy shore of world
cricket”. |

Yes, it was a Sunday Mail competition (SA):

I really thought there'd be thousands of entries. |

I don't think you had to be 18 or over to enter. |

Congratulations to the winner, but I too am lost on the references.. Sandy shores of cricket? Interesting interpretation.. What a fabulous prize
though! Definitely some sport memorabilia envy here! |

I think they refer to beaches in India as sandy shores, so it kinda makes sense. |

To me it seems she's saying Sachin is like a god, throwing/"batting" thunder bolts back down the pitch and having an "immortal" signature, like a god
would. (And in India he is considered like a god).
Anyway, they chose her as the winner so congrats to her.
(I hope though she did spell his name right and didn't put Tendulker as written in the answer above!) |

my take is she thinks he was so good he was able to engrave his name on to sand (an ever changing surface) |
