Interesting insights from a 25 WOL Judge

I wonder if a lot of other promoters have the same system for phone calls?

It doesn't seem fair if you're at work or out of coverage when they ring. Not everyone can answer their phones all the time. Surely it wouldn't hurt to leave a message and give people a day or so to call back before they re-draw the prize?

I've been called back and had messages left for major prizes so not all promoters are the same, thank goodness. :)

I have hardly ever recieved a winning call and answered it. Basically all my big wins: money, holidays, appliances etc have all been messages left saying please call us back ......thank goodness.

I've always been left a message to call back ... but then maybe I've missed some wins when they didn't, what a scary thought :o:o:o:o

It does make you wonder.... I've had lots of missed calls.

I am paranoid about missing blocked calls thinking it may have been a promoter who won't bother calling back. On the occasions I have missed them it has only ever been school or my son's Cerebral Palsy team. I have even been on the phone at work, seen a blocked call flashing on my mobile and just hung up on the customer to answer it. Priorities & superstitions I guess.

Now it all makes sense. Over many years comping, I've seen a few slogans that I entered (and didn't win the comp) be used at a later date in massive national TV and other media campaigns. :o

Surely a winner's a winner as per terms and conditions (wonder how many have an impartial adjudicator present?), and it's the promo company or marketing manager's responsibility to keep trying to contact that winner until the redraw date arrives.

What goes on behind the scenes in comps has become such a murky business whereas it used to be fun and (mainly) fair and honest.

And I guess the practise of not even reading every one of the entries (how damn rude!) will only get worse with the number of entries, good and bad, increasing massively for every single comp over time.

I think it may be illegal not to consider every valid entry - all entries must stand a fair chance of winning as per terms and conditions whether a purchase comp or not.

The marketing companies employed to run 25wol promotions with this work ethic must be stupendously lazy, understaffed or just plain stupid! If I paid a company to run a competition, I would expect that company to be knowledgeable about the product, read ALL the entries and put in 100% effort to find the BEST VALID ENTRY out of all entries. This clearly isn't happening - on a large scale! Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth - the calibre of entries would be extraordinarily high and right on the mark from a customer point of view. Reckon the most fun part of the job would be reading ALL the entries, no matter how long it took. Hmmm, I've often wondered what's to stop a dodgy marketing company person from squirrelling away somebody else's excellent 25wol ideas to use at a later date? OMG, now there's another can of worms......

I reckon a lot of 25 WOL comps work like this: pull an answer out of the lot, if it's good enough, accept it and make it the winner. I won a very expensive mobile phone on FB and my 25 WOL answer was utterly boring and pathetic, yet I won. Go figure.
