What’s in a phone? 2024 Schools Competition Now Open!
Since 2019, the annual competition seeks to educate students about the lifecycle of mobile phones and encourage them to use creative ways to motivate
their local community to recycle old mobile phones.
See the last years winning entries here!
To participate in the schools competition, students can submit any one of the following: Artwork (photo, drawing, sculpture, painting, digital) or a
Short Film (1 minute).
Entries can be individual, a group, or a whole class. The judging criteria is here – bonus points for recycling a phone with your entry!
Entries can be submitted between 1st of August and the 1st of November, 2024.
The competition is free, and open to primary and secondary students in Australia during 2024. Full terms and conditions are here.

The theme for this year is What’s in a phone?
Create an artwork or short film that shows what materials are in a phone, and what they can become when they’re recycled! We’re also encouraging
entrants to recycle a phone – or come together as a class or school to collect a few phones – as part of their entry, via our Zoos charity program
here.
The top prize is a class Virtual Zoo visit by Taronga Zoo, and a $4,000 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card.
3x Runners-Up will also receive a $1000 JB Hi-Fi gift card.
