25 WOL COMPS
Excuse me, but when and where was it decided that 25 WOL competition entries have to be in rhyme? |

I think wildflower was just trying to be helpful and give some tips on 25 wol if you would like to do a rhyming one.
I don't think he/she was telling you that you HAD to rhyme.
Thanks for the tip anyway, wildflower. I'm not very good at 25 wol so I will see how I go now!

Thanks Wildflower for your tips, sometimes they just flow and other times it's a complete mental blank. |

i use standard size envelopes that are coloured and I decorate them. Seems that they sometimes catch the eye of the person drawing them. It might be
just plain ol luck, but its fun! I have had a few more wins doing this. |

I really wonder how many of these 25 wol are actually judged on merit. I reacon most of them are just random draws - as the 25 wol that I have
actually won my answers were so stupid and pathetic, that there is no way possible that they could have actually "judged" mine to have been
better than anyone elses - yet the ones that I have put more thought into have had no wins.
I just wonder! |

Thanks Wildflower for the tips. I also am a bit daunted by 25 WOL but given there are so many more of these comps out there I had better start to
learn. Maybe a glass or two of wine will help. |

Well I've used all sorts of stickers from hearts to Australian flags, coloured pens and different size envelopes and I didn't win anything. My
only win of $50 from Take 5 was with a plain, white envelope. |

Win with Lynne comping tips from UK says that about 75% of winning slogan entries were rhyming.
However looking at some her tips, I am starting to think that is a bit dated and less 'edgy' than some comps might like. I think it either
comes to you or it doesn't, and can be difficult to write outside of your own style.
I'll let you know when I actually win a 25WOL. Fortunately in NZ we don't usually have to bother. |

My motto is to have a go at 25 wol, for two reasons...
1) You might just have the style that the judges like, and they all like different things, so it's worth a shot no matter how silly you think
your effort is.
2) If what nijoka says is true some of the time, in that they just do a random draw rather than judge the entries, then at least you have an entry in
the draw, and how "pathetic" your entry is won't even matter!
GO FOR IT!!! You can't win if you don't try!

Fingers crossed for me. Hoping for my first win really soon.
PS: Did I mention how addictive this comping is?! |

I always presumed that when it comes to words like " We'd " etc, they would be counted as one word. Maybe it is safer to count them
as two words.
What's everyones thoughts on this? |

I always count those as one word...if they're going to be that picky then they won't be choosing my entry anyway |

lol, my thing to try at the moment is these special envelopes!
basically my work sent out Christmas cards to all the car dealerships in Aust that we deal with. We were meant to send out some to some car audio
places etc but didnt have time for those and therefore had about 100 cards leftover!
The cards had 2004 on them so ditched them and my boss told me to keep the envlopes. They are nice thick ones with a gold insert! I hope the gold
insert makes me lucky! I will know i guess in a few weeks LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Cheers!
Nic
PS. look what happens when desperation sets in. |

11 of the 17 comp wins since October ($1,540 worth) have been 25wol and I've never done a single rhyme...
I've generally just stuck sentences like. "I'd like the lingerie because it'd be easier for me to take it off my wife, while
I'm holding my wine in the other hand."
I've had phone calls where they've said that my entry gave everyone a good laugh. so I know they read them.
I personally think that creative - whether that's rhyming, amusing, silly, imaginative - is the important part, not whether you've got a
couple of words that sound alike.
But to the rhymers - all credit to you! The ones I see around here show awesome talent!

Thanks everyone for their comments.
I have tried rhyming more of late, just to give it a go. Have recorded what I write now, so will gauge for myself whether this has any bearing on
future wins. The 25wol I have won in the past have just been one liners or honest reasoning behind my answer.
Who cares - just GOOD LUCK>
Envelopes - have used every size and colour and am now recording what I send what in so I have an idea myself. Have found a few stickers, so might
give them a go too ... cant hurt, peoples!

Before I found lottos I won 2 25wol comps and they were silly/funny ones. I came on to lottos and read all the web sites about winning with rhymes so
I started doing it that way. Was winning nothing that way so am back to silly/funny ones and I have scored a few things of late.
I am coming to the conclusion it is best to stick to your natural style. If you write great rhymes, go for it. Otherwise do what comes naturally.
I also agree that most of them are drawn. So just stick in anything, even if you think it is rubbish...you never know. |
