Specifying the display size of a photo without having to resize the original.

Due to the interest shown to this in another thread I thought it best to include my "tutorials" :D here.

Information on how to get your photo hosted and basic (unresized) forum display can be found here:
http://www.lottos.com.au/forum/viewthreadlite.php?goto=lastp...

As an example, I'm using a 1024x768 picture, which, like most digital photos is a 4:3 ratio (landscape)

This is the code:
[img=400x300]http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa211/PeterT999/toadstools.jpg[/img]

(I've underlined the extra part that specifies the displayed size, to make it clear):

gives this size picture:

Good sizes for standard 4:3 pictures for forum display are 500x350 or 400x300 etc (swap if portrait oriented)

Next lesson: how to post a small picture, which links to the full size copy.

Example: (click the picture below)

The trick to the clickable photo is actually fairly simple, its a combination of url and img codes:

[url=<insert direct link to the picture here>][img=200x150]<insert direct link to the picture here too>[/img][/url]

Adjust the 200x150 to whatever suits.

By direct link I mean the actual location of your full-size image.
In my example of the toadstools that is http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa211/PeterT999/toadstools.jpg

I know I am being really dumb and stupid here but where do you put the code on lotto to attach it to your messages. And do you alter the code on photo bucket in direct link and add the [img][/img] at the end of the existing code already there. As I said I am not very good at this sort of stuff. Computer illiterate. I really cannot work it out. Sorry

As far as I know, threads in this section (tips & tricks) don't expire. :)

Once you've got your photo on photobucket, you click under the photo where it says "IMG Code". This automatically copies the correct codes, and photo link in to your computer's clipboard.
Then come back to lottos and start a post, and paste in the link (using either [ctrl]-V or right click and select paste from the menu).
Then you can add in the size information in the position indicated above. (then, of course, add in any text around the link)

You could also do the post first, then go to photobucket to get the link, and come back and edit your post to paste in the link.

Sorry just another test

Dont be sorry :) We all learn by trial and error.

What you seem to be doing is copying the 'direct link' and manually adding the image code tags. That's ok, but it's easier to use the 'IMG code' from photobucket as I mentioned.

The only mistake you've made above is forgetting the square brackets, [ ], around the tags.

Also your test image is an unusual ratio (804x1024), so just divide both dimensions by the same number to get a ratio for the posted picture; I'd suggest 2. This would make the tags look like [img=402x512] and [/img] at the end.
