About the art
Beautiful Native Flowers, Artwork Story told by Wayde Clarke (Alejandro Lauren)
"The artwork we're showcasing in the center celebrates the true beauty of our Australian Native Flowers. At the heart of the piece, I've placed the
iconic Golden Wattle and the Waratah, both symbols of the natural splendor that flourishes across our nation.
Throughout August and September, gardens across Australia transform into a breathtaking sea of golden hues with the blooming of our national flower,
the Golden Wattle. Its vibrant yellow blossoms symbolize unity and resilience, qualities that are deeply embedded in our national identity.
Next to the Golden Wattle, I've depicted the Waratah, an Australian-endemic genus of large shrubs or small trees native to the southeastern parts of
Australia. The most renowned species, Telopea speciosissima, with its striking bright red flowers, proudly serves as the state emblem of New South
Wales. The Waratah’s bold, vivid colors represent strength and beauty, making it a fitting tribute to the state I call home.
These flowers are centered in the middle of the artwork, reflecting my deep connection to New South Wales and my love for Australia. Through this
piece, I aim to celebrate the natural wonders of our land and the profound sense of belonging and pride it instills in us.
On a more personal level, I see the people I love and cherish as flowers. Just as gardens bloom and grow when nurtured, the relationships and
beautiful moments we cultivate in our lives also flourish. This artwork is not just a celebration of Australia's native flora but also a metaphor for
the blossoming of love, care, and connection within our lives and communities."
